We are an "unprogrammed" Quaker Meeting, and we are part of the Baltimore Yearly Meeting of the Religious Society of Friends.
Our silent Meeting for Worship begins at 10:30 am each First Day (Sunday) in the Spirit House of ElderSpirit Community, located at Hickman and Lowland Streets in Abingdon, Southwest Virginia.
Quakerism offers a spirituality based on experiencing a loving inward presence, or Inner Light, which opens us to truth, freedom and peace.
In our Meeting for Worship we gather together in prayerful silence for one hour, opening ourselves to this experience.
Quakers do not have creeds, but we do have principles and testimonies to consider and explore. Friends have a long tradition of living testimony in the areas of simplicity, peace, and social justice. These traditions are lived both individually and by the Meeting as a whole.
While we treasure our Quaker approach to life and worship, we recognize that there are many paths to God. Both among Friends Meetings and within them, there is a wide range of beliefs about the nature of the Divine. For instance, many committed attenders and members of Friends Meetings may identify themselves as Buddhists, Moslems, Jews or other spiritual sects rather than Christians. However, we all share a profound sense of the Spirit at work in our lives and in the world.
Whether you join us as a member or journey with us as an attender, we welcome you to Abingdon Friends Meeting and encourage you to hear and respond to the loving word of the Spirit within your heart, whenever and wherever it may come to you.
We welcome any and all who care to join with us in worship and service, and believe that each person has spiritual gifts that enrich our Meeting.
